A music festival in Jacó.

Aerial view of Jacó beach town at dusk with green hills behind

Start with the awkward part: Jacó is a party town, and festivals are not what it does. There is no fixed festival ground, no annual edition people wait all year for. That is why ours happens near town instead of inside it, and those few minutes of distance are half the plan.

What Jacó does have

What the town has is a street that moves every night of the year and harder in high season. Bars with music until late and weekend DJs. Beach afternoons that turn into a party with nobody organizing them. Surf contests and events on the sand happen too, usually announced on short notice and depending on the swell. If you want something to do on a Tuesday, Jacó answers easily.

What is missing is the other thing: a large site dedicated to building production for days, with camping, its own restrooms and permission for sound to run until sunrise. The country-sized festivals sit in other stretches of coast, and anyone searching by name will find them sorted in the festival comparison. Jacó plays a different role here. It is the base you reach things from, and the open land around it is what has the room.

1.5 to 2 h

From the airport

What it takes from San José or SJO on Route 27 when the road behaves. Holidays stretch that, so leave yourself margin.

500

That is the whole cap

The ceiling for our night, and it does not grow. The floor fills at that number and you still cross the site at a walk.

31 Dec 2026

One night only

Doors and camping open at 12 pm on 31 December. Official music ends at 3 am on 2 January, and campers can enjoy the grounds all day.

A weekend built around the town

This is for people coming from somewhere else. If you already live in Jacó, skip the first two steps and we will see you on the 31st.

  1. Arrive on the 30th

Drive in daylight and keep the 31st free of highway. A day early gives you time to buy ice, water and whatever got left behind, because the Jacó supermarket on the afternoon of the 31st is its own event. Check what to bring against an open trunk before you leave home.

  2. The 30th belongs to town

That night, use the street: eat out, walk the strip, drop into a bar if you feel like it. How Jacó actually feels this time of year is written up without dressing in Jacó in December. Still sleep early, because the 31st is genuinely long.

  3. The 31st goes out of town

Check-in opens at 12 pm. Set up camp in daylight, find the restrooms, and follow dubstep and experimental bass through the Pool and Main stages from 12 pm until 3 am.

  4. The 1st is for sleeping

Official music ends at 3 am. Campers can sleep, eat breakfast, and stay until 11 am on January 2.

Why near town instead of in it

Admitting this was a little embarrassing at first, but the town has nowhere to put a night like this. The first reason is trees. Open ground in town is either beach or parking lot, and sleeping on either one at midday on 1 January is punishment. A few minutes inland there is high shade, firm ground and room to park your car beside your tent, which is what makes camping work on this coast in this month.

The second is sound. A bass rig built for an outdoor festival needs nobody sleeping fifty meters from the sub at four in the morning, and a hotel street cannot offer that. Out at The Park at Ocean Ranch the music can run through the night, with the official program ending at 3 am. People searching for a music festival in Jacó are usually after exactly that without knowing how to ask for it: somewhere the volume is not somebody else's problem.

Questions from people searching this town

Are there big festivals inside Jacó?

No, at least not the kind with its own grounds, camping and multiple days. The town runs on bars, weekend music and beach activity. The country's larger festivals land in other parts of the coast and publish their dates on their own sites, which is where to check them.

Can I make it if I arrive on the 31st itself?

You can, if you leave early. The tight part is not the highway, it is what comes after: check-in, finding a spot among the trees, pitching a tent somewhere you have never been. Doing all that in the dark on no nap is how you start the night already tired.

Is it worth sleeping in town before or after?

It works for plenty of people, especially anyone flying in with luggage. December is the most expensive and most booked month on this coast, so that closes weeks ahead. We do not sell lodging or recommend places. What we will say is that camping that night is included in the site.

Can I combine surfing with the festival?

Not the same day. The festival already includes a Pool Stage from 12 to 6 pm, then the 360° laser Main Stage through 3 am. Save the ocean for another day. Honestly, the body does not do both back to back.

Before you book anything

Two things worth reading before you buy a flight or a room: how you get out here, and how the town behaves this time of year. Tickets are on sale now. Choose your night and buy tickets for La Selva del Bajo at The Park at Ocean Ranch. To place this night on the bigger map, see Pacific coast festivals, underground festivals and camping in Jacó.
