NEW YEAR'S EDITION · ROUTE SHEET

THE ROAD
TO JACÓ.

Winding road descending through green hills toward the coast and the lights of Jacó at dusk

You have left the city behind, the sun is still up, and Route 27 plus a stretch of curves stand between you and the coast. Jacó sits on Costa Rica's central Pacific, and from San José or SJO airport you get there on that road in about an hour and a half to two hours, depending on traffic. Our bass and dubstep night happens at The Park at Ocean Ranch near that point, so this is the route sheet to the area, not to the gate.

Four ways to get there

None of them is right for everyone. What changes is how much gear you are hauling, whether you drive at night, and how much freedom you want on the way back.

OptionRough timeWhat to watchBest for
Rental car from SJO An hour and a half to two hours in normal conditions Route 27 has tolls, so carry cash in small bills. Landing at night and driving a road you have never seen is a rough start. Anyone flying in with camping gear.
Your own car from central San José An hour and a half to two hours, plus whatever it takes to clear the city Traffic getting out, and holidays that pack the road to the coast. Anyone who already lives here and can leave early.
Bus from San José Longer than driving; check current schedules Transportes Jacó Ruby runs the route. Schedules shift and it fills up in high season, so confirm before you count on a seat. Anyone traveling light who does not need a car on site.
Shared ride with your crew Same as driving, plus the stops Agreeing on a time and a meeting spot. Four people coordinating leave late when nobody makes the call. Splitting the driving, the gas, and the load.

None of these work for you? We can sort cheap shared or private VIP transport from San José, SJO or your hotel in Jacó. Message us on WhatsApp for a quote.

The day of

  1. Leave with daylight to burn

Aim to arrive while the sun is still out, not right on the hour. Setting up camp on ground you have never seen is a lot easier when you can actually see it. Before you pull out, run through what to bring with the trunk open, because turning around halfway down Route 27 is not really an option.

  2. Pull up the arrival instructions

The destination is The Park at Ocean Ranch, exactly 13 minutes from Jacó. Final parking, entry, and check-in instructions will be shared before the event. Save that message on your phone and screenshot it, because your phone does whatever it wants once you hit the coast.

  3. The last stretch is not a GPS problem

Use the final arrival guide for the correct entrance, parking flow, and check-in point. Read it before you leave Jacó, and if you are rolling in with a group, keep the guide open in the lead car.

  4. Check in at the gate

You stop at check-in when you arrive: ID in hand, and if you already have your QR card, it should be ready before the window comes down. After that you drive in and look for a spot. The faster each car clears the gate, the shorter the line behind it.

The venue is The Park at Ocean Ranch, exactly 13 minutes from Jacó. A taxi is approximately ₡5,000. Final arrival, parking, and check-in instructions will be shared before the event.

Leaving on January 1

Official music ends at 3 am. Campers can rest and stay until 11 am on January 2.

Decide who drives before anybody leaves the house, not at ten thirty with the car half packed. If nobody is fit to drive, the smart move is breakfast, a nap in the shade, and a later start, even if that is not the glamorous version. What that whole night actually feels like gets told in New Year's camping.

Questions from the road

Can I get there without a car?

Yes, but the last stretch still needs solving. The bus reaches Jacó, and there is road left after that with all your gear on your back. Most people line up a ride with somebody in their group who is driving.

How do the Route 27 tolls work?

There are tolls along the way. Carry cash in small bills, and do not assume the booth takes cards. We do not post amounts, because they change and that is not information that comes from us.

What time should I leave San José?

Early enough to arrive with sun left, once you factor in traffic getting out and one stop. On long weekends the coast fills up fast, and what is normally an hour and a half stretches without any warning.

Will GPS take me to the gate?

To Jacó, yes. Past that you follow the arrival instructions, which run on landmarks instead of a pin on a map. That is why it pays to save them and not depend on having data.

Before you shut the car

Two things worth locking down before you pull out: your QR card and your gear list. Everything else you can wing on the road. Those two, you cannot.
