ELECTRONIC MUSIC
FESTIVAL.

You are packing for an electronic music festival in Costa Rica and you still do not know which one. If what was in your head was six stages and a sixty-foot screen, this page saves you the click: ours is the opposite of that.
What "electronic music festival" means here
A country of five million people does not hold a circuit like Mexico's or Colombia's. What it has is a handful of large gatherings, most of them on the Pacific coast, with the bill split across styles: some house, some techno, live bands, workshops. They have been doing it well for years. The list with names and regions sits apart, in the festival comparison, so we are not repeating it here.
Underneath those names is the real engine: club nights. San José and the beach towns move electronic music most weekends, in rooms holding two or three hundred people. That is where the DJs who now open for visiting acts learned the job. Somebody who lands looking for a festival and finds nothing that week is usually checking the wrong shelf.
And inside that electronic music, low end is a part-time tenant. Dubstep, drum and bass and what people call weird bass almost never carry a whole night around here: they land as a one or two hour block, then the bill goes back to the usual four on the floor. That gap is where we came from, and the numbers that convinced us live at dubstep in Costa Rica.
Is this an EDM festival?
- Yes, it is electronic: machines, synths and live mixing.
- Yes, it is a festival: outdoors, with camping and several artists.
- No mainstage with pyro and no giant screen.
- Two stages used in sequence: Pool and Main.
- No house, techno or trance block at any point.
If "EDM festival" means stadium production to you, this is not it. If it means electronic music in a field full of trees, it is.
What you would expect vs what is here
The acronym arrives loaded with pictures, nearly all of them a different size. How many people search for that and land on this, we still do not know; this page exists partly to find out. Better to lay both columns out before somebody drives two hours for the wrong thing.

Who it fits and who it does not
It fits if
- Your playlists start at 140 beats and sit at half time.
- You would rather get one whole bill of the same thing than choose between two stages.
- Pitching a tent in the campsite sounds like the plan, not a penalty.
- You do not care that nobody counts backward at twelve sharp.
- Two hundred and fifty people sounds like plenty.
Look elsewhere if
- You are coming for house, techno or trance, because none of that plays.
- You want three days, a re-entry wristband and several stages.
- Stadium production is a big part of what you like.
- You need an air-conditioned room five minutes from the floor.
- You want the ticket price today, because that part is not out yet.
How to find out in three steps
-
Listen to the genre first
Put half an hour of the style on any platform and see whether your body moves on its own. If it bores you after ten minutes, a full bass program will not change your mind. What is dubstep covers it without jargon.
-
Read the real conditions
Afternoon heat, small-hours humidity, little light off the stage, shared restrooms. All of it sits unvarnished in the FAQ and in New Year's camping. It is the part most people skip.

Questions from people looking for an EDM festival in Costa Rica
Is there an EDM festival in Costa Rica?
Depends what you pack into the acronym. If EDM works for you as an umbrella over all dance electronic music, then yes: a couple of the large Pacific gatherings fit under it. If EDM means the mainstage sound, that is hard to find here and it is not what we do.
Is this a rave?
Not in the clandestine sense. There is a ticket, check-in at the gate, marked restrooms, installed art and a stated cap of 500 people. The venue is public: The Park at Ocean Ranch, 13 minutes from Jacó.
How do the two stages work?
They run in sequence so the whole crew moves through the venue together: Pool from 12 to 6 pm, then the Main Stage, a 360° laser experience, from 6 pm to 3 am. The bass night in Jacó explains the full journey.
What other electronic festivals run in the country?
A few, with fairly different profiles from each other. If you want an electronic music festival in Costa Rica, we sorted them by region, genre and camping in the comparison. We publish nobody else's dates: they shift from one edition to the next, and an old number still floating online can wreck somebody's plans.
