COSTA RICA · WHERE EACH ONE LANDS

MUSIC
FESTIVALS.

Aerial night view of a small clearing between trees with a glowing ring stage, tents, cars and the coast in the distance

Four names come up if you search festivals in Costa Rica, and the table below stacks up all four. Costa Rica has a handful of big festivals, nearly all of them on the Pacific side and nearly all of them multi-genre, heavy on workshops and movement classes alongside the music. Ours sits at the other end: one New Year's journey, two stages used in sequence, bass and nothing else.

The table below skips scores and rankings on purpose. It's there so you can line the options up, see what each one actually offers, and decide without burning three evenings on old forum threads. Everything in it is public information, and where we don't know something, it stays written exactly as that: a detail worth double-checking at the source.

Four names and where they land

FestivalRegionKnown forCampingGood for
Envision Festival Uvita, southern Pacific Electronic music across styles, plus workshops, movement and art. Yes Anyone who wants several days, many things at once and an international crowd.
Ocaso Festival Esterillos, central Pacific (previously Tamarindo) House and techno, across beach and club venues. Check Anyone who follows four-on-the-floor and would rather sleep in a hotel.
Jungle Jam Pacific coast Live bands, jam and rock, with a largely American crowd. Check Anyone who prefers musicians on stage over a MIDI controller.
La Selva del Bajo Open air, 13 min from Jacó Bass and dubstep only, with no block of anything else. Yes, among trees with your car beside you Bassheads and crews who come for the lineup, not the scenery.

We're not posting theirs, because they shift year to year and a stale number floating around online can wreck somebody's trip. Check their own site. Ours is 31 December 2026 into the morning of 1 January.

We know how it looks when the organizer of one festival builds the comparison table, so let's be straight about it: as far as we know, nobody else in the country runs a gathering built entirely around bass and dubstep with camping. That doesn't make ours better, just different. The other three have been doing this for years and doing it well. If variety is what you want, any of them beats us on that front.

How to pick yours

  1. Start with genre

It's the filter almost everyone skips, and the one that causes the most regret after the fact. Ask what you want blasting at three in the morning, not what looked good in last year's photos. If the answer is low end, the dubstep scene in Costa Rica will point you the right way fast.

  2. Then size

Thousands of people across several stages means something's always happening, and you'll miss half of it either way. A couple hundred means you catch everything and keep running into the same faces all night. Neither wins; they're two different nights that don't resemble each other at all.

  3. Camping or hotel, settled before you buy

It changes the budget, the packing list and who ends up driving. Camping calls for a tent, a sleeping pad, a light and tolerance for heat; a hotel calls for an early booking and a plan for the ride home at dawn. What doesn't work is leaving it open and figuring it out the week before.

  4. Dates last

With genre, size and where you're sleeping settled, the date is the last piece to fit. The big festivals have theirs posted and so do we: 31 December into 1 January. Tickets are on sale now. Choose your night and buy tickets for La Selva del Bajo at The Park at Ocean Ranch.

We publish nobody's dates but our own. What the other festivals do shifts every year, and their own site is the only source worth trusting. Ours opens at 12 pm on 31 December 2026, with official music from 12 pm through 3 am on 2 January.

Festival questions people send us

Is there a dubstep festival in Costa Rica?

As far as we know, dedicated purely to it, there's one, and this is it. Dubstep has been playing in the country for years, usually tucked into a one or two hour block inside somebody else's lineup. Here there's no somebody else's lineup. How that night comes together lives on the bass festival page.

When is festival season here?

Most of it lands in the Pacific dry season, roughly December through April, because camping and building an outdoor stage gets a lot simpler without daily downpours. That overlaps with peak tourist season, so lodging and flights cost more those months. Things happen outside that window too, just fewer of them and mostly indoors.

Do Costa Rican festivals allow camping?

It depends on the festival. Some fold camping into the ticket, some charge for it separately, some have no land at all and expect you in the nearest town. Those rules move from one edition to the next, so the only real answer is checking the official site of the one you're eyeing before you buy gear.

How do I buy tickets?
