For New Year's there are three areas that make sense: Jacó centro if you want to walk everywhere, Playa Hermosa if you want surf and quiet, and Herradura with Los Sueños if you want a resort. The fourth option is to book nothing and camp with us on the night of the 31st. From any hotel we can get you to the party with a shared or VIP ride.

A long surf beach right next to Jacó, with hotels and houses on the sand and a lot less noise at night. The waves are strong and so is the current, so it is more for watching and surfing than swimming. Good if you want to show up to the party rested and actually sleep afterwards.
The town itself: the main street with bars, restaurants, a supermarket and nearly all the hostels, with the beach a few blocks away. It is the most practical base without a car, since you can do everything on foot. It is also the loudest, and New Year's week turns that up. From here a taxi to the venue costs about ₡5.000.
Herradura bay, home to the Los Sueños marina and resort. It is the priciest and calmest of the three, built for families or anyone who wants a pool, a restaurant downstairs and someone to bring the coffee. It sits farther from the life of the town, so sort your transport before you arrive.
Now. The week between Christmas and January 1 is the busiest of the year on the coast, and whatever is well placed and well priced goes first. Many rentals ask for a minimum of several nights over those dates, so if you only want the 30th and 31st, hotels and hostels make it easier. Read the cancellation policy before you pay.
On the night of the 31st you can camp at The Park at Ocean Ranch, with access according to your pass, and stay on the grounds until 11 am on January 2. Plenty of people plan the trip that way: one hotel night in Jacó before, the party with camping, and home after your booked nights. What to pack is on what to bring.
